Cold Connections Masterclass with Robert Dancik

This will be a dynamic, action packed week with many innovative ways to join materials together. These will include (but are not limited to) rivets, tabs, prongs, folds, micro-fasteners and much more. Robert will also be introducing us to working with a new material called Faux Bone which has endless possibilities for use in jewellery. Robert is a hugely talented, prolific artist and his work has been exhibited, collected and published throughout the world. He has a wealth of knowledge, mined from over 30 years of making and teaching.

 

Faux Bone™, is a new, user friendly and extremely versatile material. Faux Bone™ can be cut, and carved, sawn and sanded. It can be filed, hammered, polished, drilled, stamped, inlayed, dyed, and painted. It can look like ivory, have the patina of aged ceramic, or be polished to a pure white.
You can heat and bend it with nothing more than a small embossing heat-gun. It is so strong you can rivet on it, die form right into it, or hammer metal around it. Faux Bone™ is perfect for artwork as varied as jewellery and book making, sculpture, or printmaking. It can be easily embossed to make texture plates for PMC and basket makers can use it to simulate Scrimshaw on the tops of Nantucket Baskets. In this workshop, we will explore these possibilities and more. Students can expect to leave with a number of examples and/or finished projects.

A NOTE ABOUT THE MASTERCLASS TEACHING HOURS: Class begins at 10 and teaching continues until 5pm.
You are welcome to work as long as you want after class (except for the last day). These special weeks run 10am-5pm with an hour for lunch; some include a field trip and finish with a special group dinner on the last night.
