Repousse and Chasing Class
This is a two day class
Working with these ancient techniques, you will make your own piece of ‘raised’ silver work.
What is 'repousse'? When you see forms in metal which are highly three-dimensional, one-off works but are not solid casts, then they could be 'repoussed'. Textural detailed surfaces might be 'chased' onto the surface of the metal. During this class you will be learning the basics of both techniques and will be using them in combination.
You will have the choice of working in copper or silver. There is a lot of gentle but prolonged hammering involved and you will have thorough guidance in the correct use of tools throughout the class.
You will be working with specialist tools, hammers and pitch to create a three dimensional shape raised from the surface of your metal. You’ll produce a finished piece of work by the end of the first day.
