Make Your Own Tiara

Wedding Jewellery

Current Occupation

I run my own business making jewellery and fashion accessories, specialising in bridal accessories. I've recently moved down to Cornwall and live in St Austell with my partner, Tom and young son Joseph.

Background, training and relevant experience

I've been trading for four years now and as well as taking on direct commissions I stock over 40 shops around the UK.
I have been making jewellery to sell for 15 years.

I am largely self-taught but took a part-time silver jewellery course at York college before setting up the current business. While at University I did a lot of beadwork and enamelling which I later taught children on a summer camp in Pennsylvania for Camp America.

I started making tiaras after being asked by friends to do special commissions because they were unable to find the contemporary styles they were after.

Why you decided to run classes at MCSJ and what you think about the school

I approached MCSJ to teach a 'make your own tiara' course because a lot of people were telling me they were very keen to have a go and make something really unique and personal to wear on their wedding day.

What you enjoy most about teaching your subject

I really enjoy teaching because it's very satisfying to help people realise their own creative ideas and feel proud they can wear something on a special day that they have made themselves.

What students can expect from attending your course

On the course students can expect to go home with individual, modern jewellery which they can feel proud to wear on their wedding day. They can have a relaxing, enjoyable time investigating the possibilities for bespoke, contemporary wedding jewellery. Perhaps linking themes, symbols and meaningful ideas into the tiara or jewellery they will make in the two days.

Your wishes for the coming year

I've had a lot of inspiration with moving down to Cornwall so in the coming year I want to make the most of it by developing new collections of silver jewellery and handpainted bags.
