There will be samples of the various stages involved for you to look at so you can visualise the whole process. Your tutor will give a demonstration on cutting and carving waxes. Tips and tools, measuring and weighing, sizing and textures will all be explained to you.
Using a wax pen to add shapes, repair mistakes, wax build up and construction will all be covered in this class. The first project will be a simple ring or pendant. This will be cut from tubing or block, carved, sized, textured and finished ready for casting.
There will be a demonstration on basic model making with the emphasis on production. You will look at incorporating commercial castings or findings as well as casting found objects. Time permitting, you will explore the theory of cuttle-fish casting. You will also learn about attaching sprues. You will then have time to finish and review your projects.
Your tutor for this class will be Cordelia Stewart
